I need HELP in the WORST way!

Ok, I mentioned on previous posts that I will be headed to China to teach.

I hit a slight snag on that with my son's passport.
I hope all will be fixed and I will be on my way there shortly.

What does the Mad Scientist need help with?

I don't know what books to pack!
I have so many on my shelf!

Anything that I take will most likely be the only book books I have with me for a whole year.

I will have my kindle and Nook but I want to make sure I bring the best books.
I'm sure I will end up re-reading what ever I take with me.
Maybe more then once.

Pathfinder (Serpent World #1) - Orson Scott Card
Falling Grace - Mary Hooper
Strange Angels - Lili St. Crow
Eyes Like Stars - Lisa Mantchev
Two Way Street - Lauren Barnholdt
Raised by Wolves - Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Nevermore - Kelly Creagh
Dreaming Anastasia - Joy Preble
Nightshade - Andrea Creamer
Paranormalcy (Paranormalcy #1) - Kiersten White
13 to Life - Shannon Delany
Personal Demons - Lisa Desrochers
Angelfire - Courtney Allison Moulton
Crusade - Nancy Holder & Debbie Viguie
Haven (Winterhaven) - Kristi Cook
Virals - Kathy & Brendan Reichs
Girl Parts - John Cusick
Ten Things We Did (and Probably Shouldn't Have) - Sarah Mlynowski
Huntress - Malinda Lo
Extraordinary - Nancy Werlin
Siren - Tricia Rayburn
Dust City - Robert Paul Weston
Airman - Eoin Colfer
The Monstrumologist - Rick Yancey

Please Let Me know What you Think of These?

Which ONES would you take if YOU were in China for a YEAR??

I do have way more books on my shelf so I might have to post a Round 2 in a day or so.

  1. I really liked Angelfire, Nightshade, Nevermore, and Two-Way Street. I have actually reread both Angelfire and Nightshade, but just a warning the first three all have cliffhangers so if you can't live without the sequel I wouldn't take them.
Also, Ten Things We Did and Raised by Wolves was pretty good, and I've heard good things about Huntress.

  2. I'm thinking Airman will fit you quiet nicely :)

The only one I read that you listed is Angelfire! I loved it. Would read it again. You should take that one!

  3. Orson Scott Card but to take all of his books - they are addictive!

  4. Oh wow...I wouldn't even know where to begin! For sure Nightshade and Paranormalcy. Maybe 13 to Life as well!

  5. Nightshade is AWESOME!! So i would definitely take that one!

I liked Fallen Grace a lot too, it's really unique. I hope you have a safe trip and a great time!

  6. I like a lot of those books! You should add the Leviathan series by Scott Westerfeld to that lot! Also, Infernal Devices (the steampunk shadowhunters series) by cassandra clare. Maybe add a few Ally Carter books as well?

I also love books by Justine Larbalestier, Maureen Johnson, John Green and Holly Black!

  7. Definitely Nightshade & I'd recommend picking up Wolfbane, as you'll want the sequel as soon as you finish NS. I'd also recommend Paranormalcy and picking up it's sequel Supernaturally as well.

That's a great list of books and it's hard to choose only a couple from it. Have a wonderful trip!

  8. Oh sweetie, this is uncalled for stress! I think you should make like your button over there. Save a tree (and some space), read an e-book. :)

    Happy packing!

  10. From that list, I loved Raised by Wolves and for lighter fare - Paranormalcy. I think I remember that you've read the Greyfriar so I would bring the sequel The Riftwalker. (if not grab both Greyfriar and Riftwalker :-))
For dystopian I enjoyed Enclave & Divergent.
I've heard amazing things about Orson Scott Card so you probably can't go wrong there.

  11. Paranormalcy for sure! That one is awesome! Angelfire was also really good. :D I liked Two-Way Street, too, and that one's nice and small in size, so it wouldn't take up too much room in your bag. :D

I've read a few other ones that I liked, but they're also really big and heavy, and I don't really think they're the kind you'll want to reread over and over while there. Like Nevermore and Nightshade, I liked them, but I think you'll read those once and be good for a while, and they're both on the heavy side and will take up room, so you might want to pick some that you know you'll want to reread. :D

Hope that helps a bit, and I'll definitely keep my eyes open for a part two. :)

I hope all the stuff with your son's passport gets sorted out quickly too! :D

  12. Oh, yes! I will have my Kindle and Nook with me. But these are all books I own and have not gotten a chance to read yet. I can't bare to leave them all on the shelf while I'm gone for a year. :( Plus I know I will want a real book a time or two for some comfort.

  13. They all sound great, particularly Ten Things We Did... and Nevermore. I want to read those so bad.

  14. I've heard great things about Strange Angels! But haven't read it myself yet, as for Eyes Like Stars, I've read great reviews about it also ♥ Nevermore & Paranormalcy is a must bring! (for me at least) Nevermore was really good & so was Paranormalcy. I've also heard great things about Nightshade & Personal Demons, while the blurb for Personal Demons draws me in ;] Angelfire is really good & Haven was just awesome. Love Adrian ♥

  15. I've not read any of those but I think it might be time to invest in a Nook or Kindle. LOL Then you can take tons with you. Good luck and be safe over there.

  16. This list is truly MAD. There are so many! Do you not have a bag you can pack strictly with books!? LOL :D

Honestly, I would take Huntress, Angelfire, Haven, Paranormalcy, Eyes Like Stars, Nightshade, Fallen Grace, and maybe Strange Angels and/or Nevermore.

Of course, being me, I've never read any of these (yet!), but they all look soo good!

    Hope this helps some :)

  17. you are going to have an awesome time! I would deff take some good dystopians, and then some creepy books, like Frost by Marianna Baer, Envy, Sweet Venom by tera lynn childs, Across the universe by beth revis. If you want something cute, take anna and the french kiss by stephanie perkins!

also lauren oliver's books! Claudia Gray's new book Fateful is about werewolves on the titanic lol, that one would be fun.

  18. That's so cool that you're going to live in China! I actually lived there for a couple years and those were probably some of the best years of my life :)

I would say that you should definitely take Nightshade, Paranormalcy and Strange Angels. Those are some of my favorites. Two Way Street was also pretty good and so was Angelfire.

    Have fun in China!

  19. The ones that I've read and loved, and could reread over and over again would be Angelfire and 13 to Life. I've also read Haven, but I personally don't think I could reread it many times. It was a good book though. A lot of the other books you have here are ones I'm really interested in reading (Nevermore, Paranormalcy, Dust City, Night Shade), but I won't vote for them because I don't really know how good they are (or are not).

I hope you have an awesome time in China! I'm planning on taking off next year and teaching abroad somewhere, too. I haven't decided where yet, but I graduate (with my teaching degree) in June, and I want to get some traveling in while also gaining experience right after school. I hope you keep us updated on your experience in China.

  20. Thanks for stopping by the blog! It would be hard to decide what physical books to pack! Thank goodness for eBooks! I've heard great things about Paranormalcy & I really enjoy Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl, so I can only imagine that Airman would be great, too!

  21. Are these books you haven't read yet? Books that WE love may not be ones YOU love. When I went to teach in Japan for a year (which turned into 2...before ereaders...), I only brought my absolute favorite books, ones I knew I'd read again and again. I would choose books you KNOW you'll love and not new ones at this point. Also, make sure you sign up at your local library if you haven't already...you can get ebooks that way, too!!!

  22. You've already read Angelfire so don't take that one. You need to take Paranormalcy that one is awesome. Also, I hear good things about Personal Demons. I heard Extraordinary wasn't so good. And then take all the ones I texted you about last night. Plus, with all the kindle books, you'll be rocking. You got all those downloaded, right? The Elemental Assassin series and all the Mercy Thompson ones I had?? Now I'm all worried. If you need more books, let me know and I'll send you electronic ones.

  23. Wow, that's touch decision! I would want to take them all. lol! I haven't read Nevermore, ANgelfire, or Raised by Wolves, (to name a few), so I would probably take those. :)

    Good luck!

  24. Of all of those books, I've only read one and of course that was one I didn't care much for lol. (Haven) Anyway, the ones I would choose to join me in China are:
Strange Angels- I've been wanting to read this one for a while.
Eyes Like Stars: I love books about fae
Personal Demons: I've heard such wonderful things about this book. Plus, demons are just awesome.
Paranormalcy: Another one I've heard such good things about.
Ten things we did: I just read the most enthusiastic review of this over at Oops I Read That Book and she got me excited to read it too.
Angelfire- A girl battling soul devouring reapers... sounds like a win!
Siren: I haven't read a mermaid book before, I've really been wanting to...

So those are the ones I would choose and why. I certainly don't envy you that difficult decision. Good luck choosing the right ones to take!
