For people out there with any E-Reader I am sure that you would agree with me that it can be an amazing feeling when you get to read some inky goodness and be able to save a little bit of a tree at the same time.

Of course, I know nothing will be able to replace a real book but this is a very good step for helping out the next generation.

This is a brand new project so it is very much in the early stages.

However, if  they get more people interested they will find E-Books for giveaways.

Plus... They are hoping to find a tree company/organization to work with them.  

For a certain number of reviews linked up in some way a tree will be donated or planted in honor of the project and the people who care about saving some trees.

Why the Mad Scientist Read this Book:

I'm reading this book by request of the author.  I'm so honored and simply glad she asked!  **I was giving nothing for this review.  It is all Mad straight from the cogs and gears of the  Mad Scientist.**

Concoction of a Review: 

The Mad Scientist stayed true to herself and did not dare to read the synopsis of Y.  I jumped right into this E-Book not knowing a single thing about it.  But I will let you in on the wonders behind this delightful book, in a science sort of way .  Ok, in a epic proportion sort of way.  Epic is really not drastic, we almost lost the male species in Y.  Now, I am a independent woman who is in love with science, but even I admit that would be utterly devastating.  Who would I swoon over? 


*Puts hand on chin*  I do say... what would happen if we did loose the male species?  *shrugs*  Luckily, we do have authors who have a special knack for creating the most drool worthy fictional boyfriends for those of us who do not have a wonderful fellow.  

The Mad Scientist devoured this book.  The science aspect of this book was like a text book on a hookah for me.  I do love science and my wheels were turning around every problem that presented itself in the book.  No worries... My dear Bonnie breaks down the science quit nicely.  So, no need to know anything about science to enjoy this book.

I must admit that I was not too fond of the prologue.  I was shaking my head and almost wanted to put the e-book down to knit.  If it was a darling book instead of my lovely Nook it probably would of been launched over the shoulder.  Ok... that is drastic.  However, even after finishing the book I still do not get the prologue.    Skip it and you will have a 5 Blast Rating.

Skipping the prologue, we enter into a beautiful story with most wonderful characters that had this way of making the twists wrap up and intertwine into beautiful circles, following several different families throughout the catastrophic events of probably male species extinction.  Sometimes I knew where the story was headed but most of the time Bonnie shocked me right out of my trousers.  Dare I say, I just loved it!  The science unfolded over time and the action of it all held your nose in the book, dying to know what happens next.

Of course with many characters the Mad Scientist was bound to love and dislike a plenty of them.  Deborah is an OBGYN, a wonderful character, although that is my mothers name so no matter how she wrote her I pictured my dear old mommy.  (Surprise, I did not come from a test tube.)  Surprisingly, this did not turn me off in anyway but made me like her even more, especially with the idea that my mom knows anything about science.  Yeah, right!  *Smirk*  She is a tax person.  Deborah is married to Larry, a data base smartie with some amazing digital gadgets.  (Furturistic Steampunk gadgets?)  He was a bit too ideal of a man for me.  Then there was Same who was a character bordered on the edge of like and not sure.  But I Loved him!  He was interesting and well *gasp* he shocked me tremendously.  It was just wonderful to get that jolt of excitement... too many books that you can guess what happens out there.  Not this time.  However, The Mad Scientist cannot say if she agrees with what happened to him.    

Then there was Bill, what an donkey butt!!  He is a man that will make you barf all over John, the other donkey butt of the book.  Beware of these two.  They are the reason females dislike the male species, sexist much?  

Where would we be without the characters we love and love to hate?  They work so well together making the story work in that crazy wonderful way that we crave.


The Mad Scientist loved the book so much, minus that darn prologue.  Bonnie Rozanski's book has a wonderful array of personalities, rape, bombing, so many scientific plots, cloning, science research, females running CEO & Government positions, domestic abuse, and a few small romances.  Y is a different sort of book and it was something I needed right now to spark and fuel me for this coming month.  If you want to read about a world going to the female population & the people in it then this book has it all plus more.

Ok, so onto the questions:

1. If you blog anonymously are you happy doing it that way; if you are not anonymous do you wish you had started out anonymously so you could be anonymous now?

Anonymously... The Mad Scientist is a person who works in a laboratory, loves to read, goes to school, and has three boys.  I provide some insights into my life but I think The Mad Scientist peaks a certain amount of curiosity in my followers.  The Mad Scientist is Mad perhaps a tad crazy and driven near the edge by various ex's.  Right now I love being The Mad Scientist and I think it is wise to leave a out my personal name for now but I will continue to share bits of my life here and there.

2. Describe one incident that shows your inner stubborn side:

I am a single mother of three growing boys, I am working on a four different degrees right now, and I am the first person to say I am never ever ever ever getting married.  I can do things by myself and well... I do.  Guess what!  It gets done right and without the 100 times I have to ask the other half to do it.  
3. What do you see when you really look at yourself in the mirror?
I see a person who loves many different genres.  I don't know who I am because I am a huge mix of lots of things.  I see a person who is surviving, loves to read, and loves to travel.

4. What is your favourite summer cold drink?

Flavored Iced Tea or Homemade Lemonade.

5. When you take time for yourself, what do you do?


I read, travel, scrapbook, and watch Grey's Anatomy.  McDreamy and McSteamy fixes are so wonderful!  

6. Is there something you still want to accomplish in your life? What is it?


I'm working on degrees now.  But I think a good something would be to backpack through Europe for a whole year with no money worries.  Then work my way over to Asia afterwards for another year of Travel, food, and life learning.

7. When you attended school, were you the class clown, the class overachiever, the shy person, or always ditching?

I was the girl who was amoung the guys.  I was the girl who hated girl company because they complained or back-stabbed.  I played basketball, toilet papered the HS, and never painted my nails.  They guys treated me as one of them and the girls hated me because they were all wrapped around my finger in a different way then they though.  Senior year I ran away form the US and spend a year in Thailand.  *I hated school, really, but now I have a near 4.0 GPA in college.*

8. If you close your eyes and want to visualize a very poignant moment of your life what would you see?


Thailand.... all of it.  Where I lived, the food, my friend, and the sadness I feel because I am not there.

9. Is it easy for you to share your true self in your blog or are you more comfortable writing posts about other people or events?

This blog isn't for me.  It is for book reviews but you will see me tucked all over the place.  I don't mind sharing myself at all.

10. If you had the choice to sit down and read or talk on the phone, which would you do and why?


In HS it would be talk on the phone but right now it is read.  I have a iPhone but everyone who has my number will tell you I never answer.  I have become in phone hating person.

Thanksgiving

I do not usual celebrate such a holiday.

With my knowledge of the background of this day if feel inclined to pass on such a day. 

However, my brother will be in town and my grandma has the notion to stuff him like the turkey and send him home with left over galore. 

Seems we will be having a humongous dinner. 

My oh my, I'm not sure if I should start starving myself right now. 

I do know that there will be loose clothes and NO corset wearing tomorrow!

Ode to Madame Lefoux

Is a most excellent character who debuts in Gail Carriger's Changeless.

Madame Lefoux is not your average Victorian female.  Madame Lefoux is a French inventor who dresses like a man while holding her head high when it comes to her fashion sense and her sexuality.  She is not afraid of her own identity.  Even as scandalous as it was.  She has a fast on her feet wit that I adore, a lovely science background, along with a strong unusual presence.

 Madame Lefoux is also my muse.  I can not possibly say or conceive of the idea that I would be the Mad Scientist without having read
Changeless by Gail Carriger.   

Oh my beloved, Madame Lefoux with her rebellious  wardrobe and fierce independence... I think she was after my heart this whole time. 

*grin* 

The utterly wonderful new hat store is ran by our unique character.  However, it does not take long for our dear Alexia to figure out that something is afoot in the boutique.  Of course, soon she finds herself  below in a odd place, a laboratory where wonderful things are all around. 

I can imagine gears and cogs turning in the mind of Madame Lefoux while she creates the latest steam powered technology.  Here is a picture of what her lab would look like.  Perhaps a tad messier and darker.

Madame Lefoux shrugged.  "I do not know about that, my lady.  I mean to say, one's life is one thing; one's technology is an entirely different matter."

*Gasps*  Is it not the most beautiful laboratory you have seen??  I can honestly say that I am quiet fond of it.

Here is where she would of made the parasol of usefulness.

"Alexia Maccon's parasol had been designed at prodigious expense, with considerable imagination and much attention to detail. It could emit a dart equipped with a numbing agent, a wooden spike for vampires, a silver spike for werewolves, a magnetic disruption field, and two kinds of toxic mist, and, of course, it possessed a plethora of hidden pockets."

Tinkering can be hard work and you never know when something should happen.  

Fashionable eye protection is a must.

"Madame Lefoux accepted a cup of tea and sat on another little sette, next to the relocated calico cat.  The cat clearly believe Madame Lefoux was there to provide chin scratches.  Madame Lefoux provided."

Without Gail Carriager there would be no Changeless,

Review... Protectorate No. 2

First Line:  "They are what?" Lord Conall Maccon, Earl of Woolsey, was yelling.  Loudly.  

Concoction of a Review: 

Jen:  Ms. Gail Carriger does it again with her second novel, Changeless, starring none other than the illustriously wonderful Alexia Tarabotti and her marvelous parasol. After I finished Soulless, the first in the series, I could do nothing other than race to the nearest bookstore and purchase my very own copy (as the library was sorely lacking) of Carriger's Changeless.

Mad Scientist:  You could me sporting my bustled derrière *pops parasol* and new pink and black parasol fashioned in honor of our lovely heroine the day Changeless came out.  I was full of curiosity and excited.  I could not wait to get some more Scottish delight!  

Jen:  I immediately began digging into the yummy little paperback of Victorian Steampunk, "vampires, werewolves, and dirigibles". A most excellent collection of characters consume this urban fantasy novel and if given the option, I would like nothing more than to jump head first into 1870 Great Britain as long as I were to have Lord Akeldama hosting me with tea and his drone Biffy, a connoisseur of all things lovely, available for fashion advice.

Mad Scientist:  Lord Akeldama is just a brilliant character.  He was a character that also had me hooked.  I could not wait to get more of him.  *Gasps*  What am I saying?  I loved every character!  I actually had a particular fondness for Madame Lefoux, owner of a hattery - Chapeau de Poupe, which provides more than just Victorian hats.  I admit Madame Lefoux is my muse!

Jen:  I was much depressed at my inability to finish the book in one sitting, but the weekday hodgepodge forced my submission, but I was able to finish it the next morning. Upon finishing, I was rather disheveled and upset and for the life of me I didn't know what to do with myself until Blameless, the next in the series, was out this past September.

Mad Scientist:  Oh my dear Jen, perk up because the adventure continues even after Blameless.  Our love of these most delightful characters will be around for a while longer.  Steampunkery will be had in a wonderful inky goodness form.

Jen:  All I can say is Carriger, you naughty little female, you have done me in with your most suspenseful plot and endearing characters, but why oh why must you torture me with your turn of events cliffhanger? It has suffused me with outright indignation and utter vexation at Alexia's latest predicament for although Lord Maccon has had a place in my heart, I feel as though I must fling him henceforth into an abyss...the brute!

Mad Scientist:  Truly a brute!  His Scottish gruffness is just too much.  *fans self*  Be still my beating heart.  I think it is about to jump out away from me.  As much as I wanted to see more of this scruffy werewolf in this novel I was happy to get to know our lovely Alexia more.  

Jen:  I will say no more, as it would be a shameful disaster to give away any of the deliciousness found within the 374 pages. My last words on the matter are, readers of Changeless may want to clear their schedules before they begin Carriger's novel because if it leaves you anything like it left me, you will find yourself wide eyed and breathless throughout!

Mad Scientist: Jen, you have it put in the most truthful manner.  This book is unbelievable.  The plots twist in unique ways, a mad scientist makes an appearance, and we have goggles & fashionable hats.  You will not want to put this book down nor will you be disappointed.  Trust us, you will jump in the carriage as soon as you set this book down for Blameless. 

As you can see, my goodness I hope so, through our reviews that this series is not to be missed.
